I was thinking about this holiday and what it means. Time off. Warm days. A start the summer off play day. Head to the beach ,the lake, the Mountains. Plan a BBQ or a picnic.Go to a baseball game. Get together with friends and family. Food. Summer food. Chicken maybe. Hard boiled eggs. Hamburgers on the grill. Hot dogs. Strawberry Shortcake. The first Watermelon. The Mill Spring Farm Store is stocked..local chicken, local eggs, Italian Sausages, local beef. Fresh vegetables, local cheese, local ice cream. Certainly not your grocery store variety. Healthy clean food that local people have created as a labor of love. Their dedication to the land and their return to the roots is genuine. Many times in our hectic world we don't take the time to slow down and savor the moment. We are privileged to have this opportunity because people have given their service and many times their life to allow us to be a free people; to make choices, and embrace this beautiful country. Our people of service gave their tomorrows for our todays. I find that very powerful and humbling. Pause and remember those who did not return and take the opportunity to thank the ones that did. Many of them suffer in silence from experiences, loss, injury, and exposure to unsafe chemicals. In our area of Mountain's Majesty it is easy to see the beauty. Breathe deeply, respect one another, celebrate. I whisper thank you.
